Frequently Asked Questions

I see patients between the ages of 12 and 65.

All visits are done remotely. It is recommended that all initial visits be over two way video on our secure platform, however it is possible to do this over the phone. Subsequent visits can be done over video or phone per patient preference.

I completely respect your confidentiality and privacy. I will never share any of your personal information with anyone, unless we have your explicit permission. The only exception to this policy would be in the case of emergencies, where your safety or the safety of others is in imminent danger.

Please note that if you choose to use your insurance for out of network reimbursement, The billing information will contain type of service and diagnosis codes.

This initial appointment will be a psychiatric diagnostic exam which is meant to determine whether an ongoing treatment relationship fits your needs. Initial appointments are typically 60 minutes long to allow for a comprehensive history, review of past medications, and discussion of treatment options and recommendations. This is necessary even for patients who have previously been seen by a psychiatrist, as this is our chance to get to know one another and see if the practice will be a good fit.

At your initial evaluation, we will ask you a lot of questions about your medical and psychiatric history, and why you are seeking an evaluation. Our goal is to get to know you as an individual and to find out what we can do to help. Prior to your initial appointment, we will send you information on completing our New Patient Intake Form through our secure electronic platform, as well as other related forms to sign. It is important that you complete all paperwork prior to your first appointment, so that we can help you best.

Usually, at the end of the initial evaluation we can provide you with your full assessment as well as any recommendations for treatment. However, for some complex cases, an additional follow up session may be necessary before we can provide recommendations.

You are able to request a ten minute consultation by filling out the online contact form. After that we can schedule a brief phone screen to determine if it is a good fit before scheduling you for a psychiatric diagnostic exam.

There is a $50 fee to refill a prescription between appointments.  Before contacting the clinic, please call the pharmacy directly to ensure that you do not have any additional refills or a new prescription available.

We are unable to respond to pharmacy-generated automated refill requests. If you have not been seen within 3 months, we may request that you schedule an appointment prior to writing a prescription.

This practice is considered “out of network” with all major insurance companies and is unable to see patients on medicare.

I value direct, personalized care. Private insurance sets limits on length and frequency of visits for what they will reimburse for a given diagnosis. Not taking insurance allows me to provide you with more time, flexibility, convenience, and privacy.

You can often use your health insurance out of network benefits to request reimbursement from your insurance company for what you pay for our services. I cannot make any guarantees of insurance reimbursement, and some insurances may require additional documentation. Payment is still required at the time of care via credit or debit card through our secure platform.

For those with private insurance, I can provide a superbill (itemized health care receipt) at your request, for you to submit directly to your insurance company. If you plan on doing this, we recommend calling to confirm your coverage and finding out what billing codes they cover. Generally, new visits are coded as 99205 + 90833. Follow-up visits are often coded as  99214 + 90833.

If the insurance company requires prior authorizations or other forms to be completed, we can submit these for you, however there will be a fee associated with this, depending on the amount of time necessary.

In addition, you may use your FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account) to pay for our services, however you should contact your fund administrator to learn more about this option. Lastly, you may be able to include our fees as a medical expense as part of your itemized deductions on your tax return. If insurance reimbursement is a priority, we recommend pursuing an in-network practice.

Please fill out the  online contact form. to receive a copy of our fee schedule.

There are currently federal laws in place that limit the prescribing of controlled substances to patients we have not seen in person.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there are some exceptions to that policy currently in place and we are able to provide such prescriptions on a limited basis.

I cannot guarantee how long the public health emergency declaration will last so all such prescriptions would be for a time limited basis.

If you have a primary care doctor who would like a dose recommendation for a controlled substance such stimulants for ADHD, I am happy to provide consultation and recommendations. If having a prescription for a controlled substance is essential for your treatment, I recommend that you work with a different practice.

For life-threatening emergencies, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. If you message me online, it may take 24-48 hours for me to respond to your message. If you cannot reach me during an urgent situation, you may also call the King county crisis line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 360.586.2800.

My practice is currently closed to new patients. If you have been directly referred by your therapist of PCP, you are welcome to complete the contact form to find out about waitlist availability.
